As an anthropologist active in Asian, cultural, and queer studies, I’ve used ethnographic and text-based methods to research transnational queer Chinese cultures and Sinophone cultural formations.
I’m an Associate Professor at the Institute of Social Research and Cultural Studies, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan and an Associate Researcher (by affiliation) at the French Centre for Research on Contemporary China. I was formerly a Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in Gender Studies at Monash University Malaysia and Research Lead at the Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre.
I’ve received research fellowships from the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (2023-24) and the International Institute for Asian Studies at Leiden University (2018-19). I’m an Academic Editor for PLOS One, and I’ve previously served as a book review editor for the Journal of Intercultural Studies (2022-2024) and Feminist Encounters: A Journal of Critical Studies in Culture and Politics (2019-2023). I hold a PhD in gender studies from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
In my other career, I’ve been an advocate for workplace inclusion, and I’ve helped organizations build psychologically safe, interculturally competent environments that support business growth and innovation. Previously, I served as Logitech’s first DEI Lead for the Asia-Pacific region, taught in the Conference Board’s DEI in Asia masterclass certificate program, and led “Empowering 2SLGBTQIA+ Workers in Energy,” a national project funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada, for which I co-authored a report based on its findings.
Beyond research and workplace advocacy, I’m a writer of fiction and creative non-fiction. I studied at Simon Fraser University’s Writer’s Studio, where I received the Emerging Writer Scholarship, and participated in the 2026 Literary Journalism Residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. I was a finalist in NYC Midnight’s 2026 100-Word Microfiction Challenge and received an Honourable Mention. I am a member of the Writers’ Union of Canada and the Federation of BC Writers.
